Sonnet for Skeuomorphs
I love the camera’s whirring capture sound,
the screen so briefly darkened, shutter-blind.
The tangible displays that stick around,
where notepads are bound and pages lined,
are losing ground to flat UI design.
I miss the glossy wooden shelves that held
my e-books still with center seams. Resign
myself to textureless boxes that meld
together, leave no purchase. Now beset
as endless rows of beveled boxes ape
proprietary apps. Do not forget
the time when websites were designed to make
clear to the user what is being shown,
not to gather information of their own.
